Salem stroke survivor rings stock exchange bell, thanks to new technology

Two partially paralyzed stroke survivors will ring the New York Stock Exchange closing bell Friday night with CEO Paul Gudonis in a symbolic gesture of the company’s trade presence on Wall Street.

Jessica Peters of Salem and JayJay Johnson of Ohio can ring the closing bell at 4 p.m. on the floor of the NYSE because they wear devices, produced by Myomo, that detect the weak muscle signals in their arms, which activate the devices’ motors to move their arms in the desired direction.
